HAPPY HEART QUILTS

Log Cabin

This classic quilt pattern dates back to the Civil War. They became popular to help raise funds for the Union Army. One idea is that it honored Abraham Lincoln, who grew up in a log cabin. Traditionally, the square center is red- symbolizing the hearth of the home, with the logs around the outside. A yellow center could represent light shining through the windows. Usually this pattern is laid out in some kind of light and dark arrangement- there are so many possibilities. This is one of my favorite quilts to make.
